Every now and then, a superfood comes along that we get excited about. With a celebrity fan base including Gwyneth Paltrow, we turn our attention to the diddy chia seed making a big noise…
What Are Chia Seeds?
Chia seeds are tiny dark seeds with a mild nutty taste. They hail from the ‘mint family’ originating in Central and South America.
Already reaching ‘superfood’ status, these tiny seeds pack an almighty punch loaded with fibre and vitamins including omega-3.
Because they’re so small, you can get away with sprinkling them onto almost every dish. Here’s a few preferred ways to enjoy them…
Cereals: Whether it’s Weetabix, granola or Special K – chia seeds make a healthy topping.
Porridge: A great way to start your morning, add chia seeds along with blueberries, pumpkin seeds and a touch of maple syrup to jazz up your first meal of the day.
Smoothies: Grind them into your favourite smoothie, for instance strawberry and banana.
Soups: Sprinkle across soups, or soak the seeds and mix them in to give a hearty thickness to your dish.
Baking: Whether you’re making your own protein bar, loaf of bread or yummy muffins, chia seeds are a great addition.
