Summertime Superfood Smoothies

Tis’ the season to be healthy!

With summertime being the optimum time to give your body some TLC, we turn to our superfood friends for a healthy alternative to fizzy drinks.

Strawberries, peaches, apricots, melons and mangoes are all in season at the moment, so a trip to your local grocer should prove fruitful, so to speak!

It’s easy to rustle up a smoothie with very little, and it all contributes to one of your five-a-day. Staples to have in the house include; bananas, milk, ice-cubes, honey and frozen fruits.

Why not boost your smoothie with some superfood favourites, such as: blueberries, greek yogurt, kale, strawberries, watermelon and believe it or not –ginger.

Here’s three easy to prepare superfood smoothies, bringing together superfoods and produce currently in season. Each serve two.

Blissful Banana Blitz!

For this you’ll need one banana, a cup of strawberries, half a glass of banana or greek yoghurt, a quarter glass of coconut water, two or three ice-cubes and a few drops of honey.

Cut your fruit into small pieces and add to your mixer, slowly pour in your yoghurt and coconut water, finishing with the honey. Blitz in your blender until smooth. Serve in a tall glass, adding a small slice of banana to the rim.

It Will Be All Kale!

Prepare the ingredients – a cup of almond milk, one banana, half a cup of frozen berries of your choice, two cups of kale and a few spoons of maple syrup (ice cubes optional).

Bring all the ingredients together in your blender and blitz on high. Half-way through take a peek and check that the consistency works for you, if not add ice-cubes.

Back To The Beach

Gather half a cup of exotic frozen fruit mix, a cup of milk, a handful of frozen blueberries, half a cup of Greek yoghurt, half a freshly squeezed orange and a few spoons of honey.

Combine ingredients in your blender and pulse on high until the puree is smooth. For those that like it extra fresh, add ice cubes. Serve in a chilled long glass with a straw.
